If you have been keeping mailing lists for a while, you know that it’s not magically going to expand itself. It requires a lot of ground work and then maintenance to ensure that the list is always rising up.
Its a common misconception that to start a campaign you have to have a certain number of subscribers on your list. This couldn’t be more wrong. You can start with as little as 5 people on your list as long as you can add value, it’s only going to grow. There are a few basic steps that can ensure that you are more visible and accessible for the viewer to become your subscriber:
Content content content:
The core of any email list is content and for that reason we always recommend writing about something that you are passionate about. If it’s something you live and breathe everyday, writing about it will come naturally to you and you can share your knowledge and put it to good use in helping or enlightening the readers.
Email marketing is not
about what you Sell,
it’s about the story you tell!
Optimize your website for opt-in:
If we want our viewers to become subscribers, we need to show them the light! Having a designated landing page for opt-in or sign up is crucial and often overlooked. Make signing up to your email list easy and accessible. Pop up windows are a great way to grab the viewer’s attention even before they have looked through your website.
Offers and Discounts:
Offering your customers an incentive is often a good reason for them to subscribe to your mailing list. This could be a percentage off their first order, free shipping or an upgrade to their existing order etc. Think about what you can offer relative to your trade and give them something they can’t resist.
There’s nothing quite as tempting as a give away contest and it’s a great way to make your business stand out. And if all it takes to be a part of it, is an email, no one is going to complain. Holding periodic giveaways is simple and effective way to grow your email list and also create a bit of brand awareness in the process.
Guest Wi fi
One of the best most sneakiest ( and unique) ways to grow your email list is providing free wifi to your customers / visitors and asking them for their emails to access it. From cafés to clubs and corporates, all do this and no one ever questions it!
Social media is a great platform to gain followers. But it’s also important to encourage them to join your mailing list. Otherwise all the time you’re spending on social media, promoting your business is going to waste.
